Lima, largest city of Peru

pre-Columbian pyramid houses

Lima is the capital city of Peru; it is also the largest city in the country. It lies on a desert coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Lima was founded on the land of Taulichusco, and the some of the old ruins can be see in the garden of one of the oldest manor houses built on the Main Square. The weather is usually sunny in that it hardly ever rains!

Temperature rarely falls below 12 degrees and in the summer, averages around 30 degrees. With regards to food, one can expect to find a huge variety in vast quantities, however, it isn't ideal for vegetarians, (although there are a few places that will provide for this requirement). The best beaches are located along the Pan-American Highway in the South of the city.

An 18th-century viceroy mansion built on the site of a pre-Columbian pyramid houses the highly recommended privately-run Museo Rafael Larco Herrera, has one of the largest ceramics collections to be found anywhere.

The Sanctuary of Las Nazarenas festivities in October is one of the biggest religious events in Lima, and in fact, Peru. Part of the Lima City Walls still remain and are regularly visited by tourists.
