The Rome Marathon: 21 of March, 2010

Are you looking for the ideal combination of athletic challenges and a nice weekend in Rome? Pack your bag as annual Rome Marathon is going to hit the city on the 21st of March, 2010. Known as one of the most participated sporting events in Italy, the marathon is very popular with local and foreign athletes. Be there to experience, as Rome marathon is also the first major European marathon of the season 2010. Historically, the competitors from Africa and Italy have always been the major players in the men's field while for the women's - runners from Africa and Eastern Europe.

This year the Rome Marathon celebrates its 16th anniversary. Since the start of the XX Century, various races have been run through Eternal City streets, but the first true marathon was not held until March of 1995. Rome Marathon 2010 will start and finish near Rome's symbol - Colosseum and the route runs along the banks of the Tiber and passes the historic squares and streets. The main sights will include St. Peter's Square, the Pantheon, the Circus Maximus and internationally beloved Trevi Fountain. Enjoy the top attractions!


Everyone can participate in this marathon. You don’t have to cover 42 km of narrow (the time limit is 7:30 hours). According to tradition, sports lovers, children, adults and seniors can head out for the non-competitive 4 km course, known as the “Stracittadina”. In addition, disabled athletes are welcomed. Handbike and wheelchair athletes will start the course at 8:55am. Anyone who does not reach the half marathon mark by 12:30pm will be asked by the judges to stop. Everyone who is sharing a common passion - running should not miss this annual event.
