Swaying palms and sparkling waters

Tiny Goa, glorious slice of India

The charmest place on the indian coast, Goa is a dream travel not only for hippies, but for any kind of traveller that likes sunny beaches and local vibes. A blend of west and east, it is a former Portuguese colony with rich history, beautiful architecture and delicious mix of culinaries, offering a very original and unique India to whoever dares to explore it.

The mix of religions is also evident, with the majority of the population being Hindu, but a significant part being christian, so that travellers spend their time visiting both temples and churches in Goa. It is one of the less populated regions in India and also one of the safest, with violence being almost inexistent.

Things and places to see are numerous, starting from the beaches, that are differently frequented but all very gorgeous. Anjuna Beach is one of the most crowded, having close by the Albuquerque Mansion. On the extreme south of Goa region, you will find Palolem Beach, with scenic rocks and beautiful islands on the background, usually not as crowded as other popular beaches.

Maybe the most beautiful beach over there is Colva Beach, located on the only mainly christian sub-district, and it will enchant its visitors with the colours of the sea and sand blending together. But there are more to see! This are the five churches that you cannot miss: Bom Jesus Basilica, with distinctive baroque architecture, Se Cathedral, one of the largest churches in Asia, Church of St Francis of Assisi, with beautiful paintings, Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, largely visited by christians all over the world, and Church of St. Catejan, that has a strong resemblance with St. Peters Basilica in Vatican.

Take some time to visit the flea markets, libraries, to dive and to do other extreme sports, and to visit the amazing Butterfly Conservatory of Goa, where you can see hundreds of free flying butterflies. It’s a mystical and unforgettable place, that once was a big destination for hippies and that today attracts the attention of thousands of travelers. Don't miss the opportunity to visit this gem of India!
