Frankfurt Christmas Market.

If you want to see how Germany celebrates the festive period, the Frankfurt Christmas Market is a good place to start. More than 200 stalls fill the city's medieval core from the Römerberg to the Mainkai on the River Main.

The opening ceremony takes place on the Römerberg stage. The main atttraction is the 30-metre-high Swiss Christmas tree, a useful orientation point after you've overindulged in the famous Glühwein (mulled wine). The decorations are splendid and there are stalls everywhere offering traditional Christmas pastries and wooden toys.

The fair is especially attractive around the old Römerberg area, not far from the River Main. Every day at 9.05am, 12.05pm and 5.05pm there is a carillon from the balcony of the Nikolaikirche.

Advent concerts also take place on the Römerberg stage.

The Framkfurt Chrismas Market is one of the most important Chrismas markets in Germany.

The elaborate and creative stand decorations, the scenis surroundings of the Romerberg and Paulsplatz and the huge christmas tree also make it one of its most beautiful.
