Most of Vienna's main sights are crammed into the Downtown ( Innere Stadt). The district is adorned with the outstanding Gothic heights of St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom), the massive Imperial Palace (Hofburg) and Sch?nbrunn Palace, the cultured history of the Jewish quarter (Judenplatz) and a scattering of historic streets and squares.
Wander along narrow, medieval alleyways or across imperial squares, or just follow the footsteps of Sissi and Emperor Franz Josef, and marvel at the majestic architecture along the Ring boulevard. Be inspired by an atmosphere steeped in history - which also boasts the comforts and infrastructure of a modern city!
The Wiener Philharmoniker is one of the world's top orchestras, the Vienna Boys' Choir is triumphantly successful wherever it tours, and the Vienna Conservatorium has produced innumerable international award-winners in all musical disciplines. The famous Danube is central to Viennese outdoor life: you can swim in it, boat on it, cycle beside it or skim along its surface. Walking in the woods is another classic Viennese pastime. You can liven up your amble with a guided tour or a stop-off at the Prater's famous Ferris wheel.

Visit one of Vienna's famous coffee houses or traditional wine taverns ("Heurige") and work your way through famous culinary specialities. And Vienna?s got a lot of these. A must to try is Wiener Schnitzel - A speciality originating from the Italian "costoletta milanese" -breadcrumbed and fried veal escalope, frequently served with potatoe salad (Erd?pfel Salat). Desserts such as Apple strudel (Apfelstrudel) and Sacher cake (Sachertorte) shouldn?t be missed.
