This is a rare opportunity in Australia to see such a comprehensive line-up of animated films - undoubtedly the most imaginative art form there is! Whether poetic, narrative driven, experimental, solely digital, comical, dramatic or inspired by the documentary form, MIAF's passion for showcasing outstanding works will culminate in a not to be missed celebration for filmmakers, lovers of animation and the general public alike. The world of animated films is a rich and powerful one. Take a look!
Animated films are not the exclusive reserve of young audiences. The organizers of the festival restricts an admission to an 18+ audience, except for special sessions designed for kids & teens. Please check our website for full details. Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over. Most festivals do not have the resources to do this and it is for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main MIAF screenings.
This year the commission of the festival has received more than 12,000 entries, screened more than 2,500 films. The selection has been made and the festival is ready to present you the best ones. So discover the different world full of colors and wonders. It is said that animation is like real life - but with funny characterization. It's a way to approach a serious topic in a fun kind of way.
