The park was originally part of a commercially unsuccessful housing site, the idea of Count Eusebi Güell, whom the park was named after. It is said that Barcelona is all about Gaudi and the park its one of the most marvelvous one. The intention was to exploit the fresh air and beautiful views from the site, with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses. However, only two of the, were built, neither designed by Gaudí. He bought one of them with his savings and moved in with his family and his father in 1906. Nowadays there is a museum in ex-house of Gaudi.
The focal and the main point of the park is the main terrace, surrounded by a long bench in the form of a sea serpent. It is also a brilliant place to take a break and relax after the walk up to the steep hillside when reaching the park.
