Crowded every time you come! So be morally prepared. Even though, Florence is rather a small city of Tuscany, but it hosts more than 3 millions of tourists every year. The major part of them are coming during the summer season. Therefore, the best advice would be to organize a trip ahead, as there are plenty of people wishing to explore the real and poetical beauty of the city.
The most famous symbol of Florence is Michelangelo's sculpture of David (anatomically precise nude male sculpture). This treasure of Renaissance can be found in Galleria dell'Accademia. More masterpieces of this great creator are available to public at Cappelle Medicee. You can see the figures representing night, day, dawn and dust scenes and the tombs that witness the capacity of creative human hands. Discover how the man tamed the stone.
Moreover, it would be a sin not to visit other schedevres of Renaissance and Gothic times. They include: Ponte Vecchio (probably one of the most photographed bridges of Florence), church of Santa Croce, Galleria degli Uffizi (world's greatest collection of Renaissance paintings) and cathedral (Duomo). In general, every central street of the city presents al least a little piece of the art. Sometimes it looks like Florence is a Renaissance masterpiece itself. It is appreciated more and more as the time passes by.
Nothing is like wine from Tuscany. The region is one of the most important and most famous wine producers in Italy. Take al least one sip, while dinning out in the city and enjoy the taste that has been evaluated by hundreds of generations. Don't forget to do the shopping (or just give a look at what the city shops offer to you). Label fans will find good bargains.
