Coming of Age Day is a Japanese celebration and holiday held annually on the second Monday of January. This year the festival takes place on the 11th of January, 2010. It is held in order to congratulate and encourage all those who have reached the age of majority (20 years old - the age considered as the beginning of adulthood). It is the minimum legal age for voting, drinking, and smoking in Japan as well. The most famous celebration is held in Tokyo.
The official ceremony is held in the morning at local city offices. During Coming of Age Day you can see a lot of young people in the streets all over the city. The girls are usually dressed in their traditional clothing, a Kimono, and guys generally in suits. After the ceremony, the young adults often gather in groups and go out to the clubs and parties. Therefore, the fun and entertainment in the streets of Tokyo are guaranteed.
Blending the old and the new, Tokyo is a city that presents a different view of itself. You will definitely find an overwhelming desire to wander around the town. In addition to its spectacular nightlife, Tokyo can offer you a wide range of museums, theaters, restaurants, shopping malls and sports events. The Karaoke video games should not be excluded from your entertainment plan. Enjoy the city together with the crows of young people and dive into the atmosphere of parties.
One of the best days to visit Tokyo is approaching. Do not stand aside when the city is celebrating. Find out what is the Japanese way to entertain and to be entertained!
