Sidney Festival: 9 - 30 of January 2010
Once again Sidney is rising for the summer season and is presenting its energy, style, spectacle and sophistication... Kicking off with 2010 Sydney New Year's Eve fireworks, the annual Sidney festival is going to invade the town. The city-wide takeover stretches from 9th to 30th of January 2010 with many musical highlights for the hot summer nights. Summer in Sydney wouldn't be summer without annual Sydney Festival.
The program of this international festival is marked by exceptional film, dance, theatre and music performances. Sydney Festival opens on the 9th of January 2010 with so-called ‘re-imagined’ first night program. The highlights include a performance of Al Green - a living legend of modern music. It will be his first ever Australian music show. The appearance of wing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is also included in the first night's schedule.
The three week festival is suitable for everyone. Families can enjoy afternoon programs full of shows presented by Circus Oz, Barely Contained, MusicAlive, and Shaun Tan’s illustrated novels. In addition, this year the special attention will be turned to a solid focus on the visual arts. Other dance and theatre highlights include: Polish jazz group - Marcin Wasilewski Trio, Belgium’s Muziektheater Transparant’s stories and Samoan choreographer Lemi Ponifasio’s Tempest performances.
Moreover, on the 28th of January the Forecourt of Sydney Opera House will be transformed into a pirate party. On 11th - 14th of January the show of India's 43 Rajasthani musicians will be taking place in Seymour Centre.... And that's is not all! With many free events alongside premier ticketed cultural events Sydney has a lot to offer. Check out the official website: www.sydneyfestival.org.au
