Kota Kinabalu Malaysia

South East Asia Pearl

Capital of Sabah in east Malaysia on the island of Borneo, Kota Kinabalu is known as KK by those familiar with it. Although it has a population of just 350,000 it is a vibrant city with the added attraction of ecotourism, long sandy beaches, paradise islands, virgin coral reefs, tropical rain forests, and the mighty Mount Kinabalu just 90 minutes away. Places of interest include the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, comprising five islands popular for watersports as well as white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, reefs in shallow waters, coral gardens, lowland rain forests and nice walking paths. You find a world class sailing marina and championship golf courses as well as both first class holiday resorts and good hotels for the budget traveler.

There is shopping along KK's main artery offering anything from branded goods to indigenous crafts in shopping centres or more traditional markets such as the Sunday Flea Markets held in most little villages. With 30 ethnic groups calling Kota Kinabalu home, the food is rich and diverse. Try some fantastic flavours from a hawker's stall or restaurant.
