Banking capital Zurich, too rich

Surprisingly vibrant and trendy

The largest city of Switzerland, Zurich, is located on the Zurich Lake and is in general, the first place where tourists arrive in the country, moreover, its placement close to the Alps is convenient for those who want to enjoy the resorts. Unlike many people believe, Zurich is not the capital of Switzerland, but it is the financial centre, as well as the academic and mediatic centre.

The old town is the most important tourist place, with many museums, galleries and an intact range of mediaeval buildings. The Grossmünster, an old Romanesque church, is the most known landmark in Zurich, having two towers that can make you have an awesome view of the city. A German artist made some windows to the church in 2009, some of them, containing semi precious stones.

The Museum of Art, the Kunsthaus, is the largest in the city and has many important works from Swiss artists like Füssli, Hodler, Segantini, and important international artists, such Manet, Van Gogh, Kokoschka and Baselitz. There are also modern sculptures by Giacometti, and a good collection of other modern arts. The museum is open from 10am, and it's closed on Mondays.

Other works by Giacometti are in Fraumunster, a church from 1250. He worked in windows, but the most incredible work are the stained glasses made by Marc Chagall, which attracts many people to the church. Fraumunster is located along the Limmat River, right in front of the Grossmünster, on the other side of the river.

In wintertime, you can go skiing by train. There is a pass including the ticket to the train and the ski pass. The train leaves in the morning and comes back in the evening. The closest resort is the Flumserberg, largely attended by locals, having many runs for beginners and experts. Zurich is a charming modern and ancient city, with many places and things for you to discover and explore.
