Elegant Buenos Aires, Argentina
Paris in South America
The capital of Argentina, also called by some as "The Paris in South America", is richly filled European heritage and cultural offerings of all kinds. Buenos Aires is elegant, seductive, and may look familiar if you are coming from the old continent, and yet full of the Latin America spice. The locals are called portenos,"people from the port" in English, making clear that many of the inhabitants are somehow immigrants.
Buenos Aires is the second largest metropolitan city in South America, after Sao Paulo, and it's located in the province of Buenos Aires, being a politically autonomous district, though, for its federalization in 1880. Its economy is the most important in Argentina and it was ranked as the most important global city and competitive marketplace of Latin America.
It's easy to get around the city, for the public transport quality, but you can also walk, or even ride a bicycle in some green areas, such as the Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur and some parks in the district of Palermo Viejo, a trendy neighbourhood with boutiques, bars, book stores and excellent nightlife. The San Telmo district has a Tango performance on Sunday nights, specially for tourists, and by day, the flea market and weekly fair are the main attractions. Also important is Puerto Maderos, a waterfront spread through Rio de la Plata, place of elegant restaurants and a floating casino.
But you cannot leave Buenos Aires without have seen the Cemeterio de la Recoleta, the final destination of the high society, including many Argentinians presidents, scientists and artists' tombs, and most important, Evita Peron's tomb.
