This is the time for many music festivals, and while Europe enjoys indoor festivals cos of the cold weather, Jamaica held Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival 2013. Two full day with jazz and blues sounds from only the best artists, from the 24th until the 26th January, sponsored by Jamaica Tourist Board, this will be the 17th year since entering in Jamaica Jazz Festival.
You will ask how it started and why Trelawny, which is Jamaica's 5th largest parish? Well, Allen Chastenet, the then Vice President of Air Jamaica wanted increase a number of passengers travelling to the island, so he contact the famous producer Walter Elmore, asking him to put together a team. Back in 1996 they made it happen, they created this event that solved his problem, and that was the beginning of Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival 2013. The audience was 1,500 persons, the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival was born overlooking the sea, on the beautiful lawns of the historic Rose Hall Great House. Over the next years the festival has grown, with great artists like George Benson, Erykah Badu, Najee, The Isley Brothers and many more.
It definitely has become a great success, but the things have been changed, at the beginning of the festival, the big month was November, but the big rain showers kind of put the event down, and it was changed to January, which is another slow season of the year, like this making the jazz lovers come anyway, over-packing the island, and increasing the economy.
All happens at the Greenfield Stadium, near by Rose Hall, now there are crowds with over 30.000 people from all over the world, desperate looking forward to see great jazz stars like Gladys Knight, Maroon 5, Natalie Cole, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers, Anita Baker, Hall & Oates, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Maxi Priest, Babyface, The Whispers, Joss Stone and many many more.
