Good humoured people
Fondly known as The Rebel County or the People's Republic of Cork, this city has a lot of character, and a lot of characters to appeal to people from all walks of life. Situated in the very south of the country, people from Cork are known for speaking a lot of slang as well as being good-humoured and taking great pride of their home county which many see as the real capital of Ireland as well as their hurling and GAA (Gaelic Football teams) who are regularly highly rated contenders of provincial and national competitions.
However it's not just the charm of the natives that has tourists thronging in their masses, it is home to the infamous Blarney Stone where those who dare to kiss it are believed to receive the gift of eloquence, on top of a castle which dates back to the 15th Century, an experience not to be missed! Many spectacular churches and cathedrals are located in and around the city which are easily accessed by foot.
However it doesn't end here! The European Capital of Culture in 2005, Cork boasts a great music and cultural scene with great live music venues around the city where many popular acts perform as well as Cork Opera House which was refurbished not so long ago in celebration of the cultural occasion. It is also home to the English Market, Europe's oldest indoor market where all types of food can be purchased to keep those hunger pains away. Of course, in true Irish style, many nightclubs and bars provide endless entertainment to appeal to people of all ages and interests.
