Nice la Belle
Relax on the walkway of the English
Located on the south east coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, Nice is the second-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille. The city's main seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais ("the Walkway of the English") owes its name to the earliest visitors to the resort.
For decades now, the Nicean surroundings have attracted not only those in search of relaxation, but also those seeking for inspiration. The city has been of particular charm for a lot of most outstanding painters, like Chagall or Matisse who are famous in many of the city’s museums, including Musée Marc Chagall, Musée Matisse and Musee des Beaux-Art.
Tourists visiting Nice will find numerous sightseeing possibilities all around the city such as the magnificent Palais Lascaris, the Cathédrale de Sainte Réparate and the Monastère Notre Dame de Cimiez.
Nevertheless, for many visitors, the legendary coastline is Nice's main tourist attraction. Especially the shiny rocks of Neptune Beach with its sun loungers, its pedalos and children's play areas. Also of interest for tourists in Nice, look out for the Basilique Notre Dame, the Cathedrale Orthodoxe Russe St. Nicolas and the Phoenix Parc Floral de Nice, the city's main botanical gardens.
The Fort du Mont Alban offers both impressive French military architecture and stunning views. Whilst not exactly historic, the Nice Acropolis dominates the area and is an eye-catching multimedia and conference centre. The Old Port also worth a sight: a prominent reminder of its position as the French Riviera capital, being filled with swanky yachts and surrounded by a number of noble buildings from the 18th century.
