Free crowdy procession
The Carnival of Cultures is the most popular Event in spring for Berlin. It includes a four day street festival and goes over to the final procession on the last day.
Settled in the colourful and alternative district of Berlin-Kreuzberg the whole event is as multifaceted as Kreuzberg itself. Artists, dancers, cooks, acrobats and street musicians from all over the world joining around the grassland near Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, one of the most beautiful churches in Kreuzberg.
With about over 300 markets the event attracts each year more and more people. Over 700.000 visitors alone are expected for the crowdy procession which is free for everybody to see the 4500 organized participants who change the city into a colourful place which is rich on ideas, spirit and make Berlin what it always was and will be: A city of diversity.
The district of Kreuzberg where Carnival of Cultures is getting celebrated since years is very exciting! Take a walk down the Mehringdamm or Bergmannstrasse and look into one of the second hand shops which are very busy, after you can take a coffee in one of the lovely cafes in this area.
There is also a gay museum which is open six days a week, the "Viktoria Park" –on of the oldest parks in Berlin or you go nearby to the old "Flughafen Tempelhof" –the very first public Airport of the world. Not used anymore for flights but saved very much of his vintage 1920's style.
