Royal Palace of Madrid
Art lovers travelling the world to discover new pieces of art, you did well to stop in Madrid! The capital of Spain is huge (the third largest city in the European Union) and considered as one of the top European destinations concerning art museums. The most famous are the Golden Triangle of Art, located along the Paseo del Prado and contain three museums.
The most famous one is the Prado Museum that features one of the world's finest collections of European art, from the 12th century to the early 19th century, based on the former Spanish Royal Collection, where you will admire the works of Diego Velázquez's, like Las Meninas, of Goya, for instance La maja Vestida and La maja desnuda. Other masterpieces from Ruben,Raphael, Veronese,Van Dyck Titian among others are exposed there. The other two museums are the Reina Sofia Museum, where you can see the Guernica of Picasso(back from USA) and theThyssen Bornemisza Museum one of the largest private collection in the world.
Other great museums are : the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, the Royal Palace of Madrid (official residence of Juan Carlos I of Spain),it's a baroque palace full of artworks characterized by its luxurious rooms and its rich collections. The Museum of the Americas, collections from the American continent ,the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas (National Museum of Decorative Arts) is one of the oldest museums in the city, the Museo Nacional del Romanticismo (National Museum of Romanticism), the Museo Cerralbo , the Museo de Antropollogia(National Museum of Antropology)...
Madrid is the most touristy city of Spain, the fourth most touristy of the continent, its most famous landmarks are the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Teatro Real the Buen Retiro park or the archaeological museum. The city has a considerable number of Catholic churches, some of them are between the most important Spanish religious artworks like San Nicolàs de los Servitas,the oldest church in Mudejar style that survives today.
An other really good reason to go to Madrid is undoubtedly is to discover its night-life! Which is...all night... Tapas, bars, jazz lounges, cocktail bars, live music,clubs, flamenco theatres...
If the idea of seeing a bullfighting doesn't disturb you, you should know that Madrid hosts the largest Plaza de Toros (bullring) of Spain, Las Ventas, since 1929. The season to watch a bullfighting begins in March and ends in October especially during the festivities of San Isidro (the saint patron of the city).
