Halloween in New York City
Largest celebration in the world
End of October is obviously a time for Halloween, the 31st is the night of costumes and mad partying all over the Western countries, many are looking for the answer on the question, how it started? Or how should Christian respond to this mad event?
Halloween wasn't always as its now, its history dates thousand years back to ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. The Celts lived 2,000 years ago in area which is now United Kingdom, Ireland and northern France, celebrated Samhain as their new year on November 1. That time represents the time, when Summer is finished and starts the cold and dark Winter time, they associated the season with death, they believed that on the night before Samhain the boundary between the living and the dead was distorted. On October 31 they celebrated the night, when ghosts of the dead where believed to return to earth causing trouble and damaging the community’s food supply.
But no city does celebrate Halloween like New York City does! On the night of 31st October NY's streets are hitted by ghosts, ghouls, witches and zombies. They are taking part in marching parades and dancing a spooky storm at the NYC's best nightclubs.
New York has it owns tradition since 1973 a New York's Village Halloween Parade, which is the largest celebration in the world. Featuring puppets, marchers and bands, it's the only night time parade in the New York City, it's also a lot of fun and a unique way to celebrate Halloween.
