The Grey Cup final 28 Nov Edmonton
Canadian Football League championship.
The Grey Cup - Canadian Football League championship final Nov. 28, at Commonwealth Stadium.
2010 marks the 98th year of the Grey Cup… a sporting event that shuts down a nation each and every year.
In 1909, Earl Grey, the then Governor-General of Canada, decided to donate a trophy for the Rugby Football Championship of Canada. This very trophy, subsequently became known as the “Grey Cup”,
This was originally a competition open only to teams that were registered with the Canada Rugby Union. Since 1954 only the teams of the CFL have challenged for the Grey Cup.
With over 52 000 tickets sold to the actual event the rest of the city promises to put on a party to continue the celebrations… with the expectation of 200 000 people coming together for the weeklong extravaganza, not counting the fans in the stands.
The day prior to the game starts with a downtown breakfast, followed by a noon parade. The heart of downtown will be featured during the week, including an open sports bar near the square from Nov. 24-28 that will accommodate upwards of 400, along with the CFL Experience that allows fans an opportunity at hands-on skills that incorporate passing, catching and kicking.
This is a must attend event for “footy-crazed” nuts anywhere in the Canadian area.
Edmonton is the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta, located on the North Saskatchewan River in the central region of the province.
