Rio de Janeiro is fondly known as “A Ciudade Maravilhosa” or “The Marvelous City,” and for good reason. Rio has the largest amount of tourists visiting each year for the southern hemisphere and has summer weather due to its proximity to the Tropic of Capricorn. Climb to the top to view the Rio from the infamous perspective of the Christ the Redeemer Statue, the second largest Art Deco in the world. Once there you can see the influence of the Portuguese Imperial Family on the city’s architecture.
New Year’s celebration in Rio De Janeiro is not once easily forgotten. Imagine yourself immersed in the Portuguese-speaking country and settled on the Copacabana beach waiting for the first stroke of midnight. Be sure to dress in white like the locals, a strong tradition wishing good luck into the new year. If you miss the new year in Rio, in the spring you can catch Carnival where you can complete by wearing the most colorful costume you’ve bought (or made yourself).
When visiting Rio, you will find it to be the mecca of theatre and culture. From plays to quaint music concerts, you will find it here. If you are especially interested, Rio holds an annual International Film Festival in September, finding its root in 1999 after branching off from the original Rio Cine. Visit Rio and you will understand why it is called the Marvelous City.
