Spend your summer win France with Tour de France. The famous Tour de France is a bicycle race known around the world. Between the 3rd and the 25th of July enjoy the best moments of bycicling sport. In 2010, the Netherlands, which gave the bicycle its nickname of “little queen”, will host the Grand Départ of the Tour for the fifth time. The Tour de France is like no other sporting event and always has been. Experience the atmosphere!
The Tour de France is an annual bicycle race that covers approximately 3,600 kilometres (2,200 mi) throughout France and bordering countries. The race lasts three weeks and attracts cyclists from around the world. The race is broken into day-long segments, called stages. Individual times to finish each stage are totalled to determine the overall winner at the end of the race. The rider with the lowest aggregate time at the end of each day wears a yellow jerse The course changes every year but it has always finished in Paris.

The geographical map of the racing is slightly changing every year. Around 250 towns apply each year applied to host a stage of the Tour de France. The scrutinisation of their bids is subject to the correspondence between their geographical position and the main themes dictated by the sporting objectives. Certain towns which are strategically positioned on the Alpine or Pyrenean routes are visited more frequently than the others.
The Tour de France 2009 race covered 3459.5 km. The gold medal was won by Alberto Contador (Spain). The receiver of the silver medal was Andy Schleck coming from Luxembourg. The bronze medal was given to the legend of the Tour de France - Lance Armstrong. He is best known for winning the Tour de France a record seven consecutive times.
