Greet the beginning of summer in one fabulous island and one amazing capital! Cuba hosts the 30th edition of the Festival del Caribe “Fiesta del Fuego” . Fiesta del Fuego is a lively, week-long celebration of the music, dance and other cultural aspects of each of the countries in the Caribbean; each year the festival is dedicated to one a particular country. The highlight of the festival is the parade, in which each country participates. Join one of the biggest and best free street parties in the whole of Cuba!
When did it all begin? The idea for the festival arose in 1981 with the idea to create a theatre festival that would revitalize the inheritance brought to Cuba by Haitians, Jamaicans, the French, and the Spaniards. In 1983, the initial idea gathered momentum and the festival adopted its international character. Since then, it has promoted regional culture and strengthened the bonds of friendship with various Caribbean countries. One can taste their enigmatic artistries through the annual Fiesta del Fuego. The event will be taking place from the 3rd to the 9th of July, 2010.
What you should be ready to experience? From its inception, the festival has emphasized the arts, with an international colloquium now exploring issues of identity, history and religion through artistic endeavors. In addition to its cultural awareness, the Fiesta del Fuego is well known for its rambunctious nature, with free flowing Cuban rum, international dancing and traditional street music that lasts throughout the night. Life in Cuba is colorful, take some time to discover.
Every time the festival has a particular theme and emphasizes the particular culture or the country. The 30th annual celebration will be held July 3rd through the 9th and will be dedicated to Curaçao and the Brazilian region of Pernambuco. It will also pay tribute to the bicentennial of Mexico’s independence and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. Feel the spirit of celebration. It is something that has to be seen to be believed.
