Los Angeles - 12 INCOMPARABLE

The city of Angels is the land of legends and broken dreams. Make it or break it it’s an experience here nonetheless. As Los Angeles itself is so vast in size and the people seem to have a particular taste for living a full life hence there are thrilling events on every single month. These special events are worth planning your trip around as every single one of these is a magical and life enhancing. So go any month and here is the down low on what to do any month in the place that impacts every corner of the world.

January

New year in LA is of course one of the most wild places to be for the turning of the year, and i’m not just referring to New Year’s Eve! The Tournament of Roses Parade takes place in Pasedena and if you’re not too hungover after last night’s antics you’ll be able to enjoy hours of passionate musical  performances, extravagantly decorated floats and to follow this is the Rose Bowl football game, All this is available to watch on the television if you don’t make it.

February

February marks the Academy Awards season. It sweeps through LA with an excited and involved mood; for if you’re in LA in Feb you are bound to feel a part of all the glamour, talent and art. In fact it’s hard to get away from it all but then again, why wouldn’t you want to feel a part of this tradition that brings the whole world together to recognise filmography in the most inspiring and commercial sense.

Chinese New year celebrations take over Chinatown in Downtown LA in February in the form of a two day carnival. Residents and celebrators will enjoy street fairs, live performances, countless food stands and lantern processions. Later on there is the most colourful and vibrant Golden Dragon Parade.

March

March is a month for the athleticism. The 26 mile long Los Angeles marathon begins at Dodger Stadium, goes through downtown LA and ends in Santa Monica. With plenty of space to place yourself and meet fellow enthusiasts.

April

April is the month of knowledge. The LA Times Festival of Books takes place in late april for a weekend. It is situated south of Downtown and is great for discovering new bestsellers and hidden gems as well as getting your favourite new books signed by the authors.

May

May is the month of Mexican celebrations. Cinco de Mayo festival takes over 30 square blocks of Downtown for a huge fiesta. Enjoy the countless pinatas, Mexican food at it’s best and music down every street.

June

In early June The LA Gay Pride event begins. Drawing in crowds of over 400,00 each year as LA has a very strong LGBT community. Hence they have the best DJ’s, raves and parades. Not forgetting the beautiful drag queens and heartfelt shows of love and humanity everywhere you look.

July

July 4th in LA is naturally done in style. Independance day is celebrated uniquely in every neighborhood but the one to see is at Hollywood Bowl where choreographed withy the LA philharmonic fireworks are launched creating the most patriotic feeling. Other places that deserve to be highlighted are Venice Beach and Rose Bowl.

August

August is a month for festivals as it’s a great temperature to be outside but not too hot that you feel the beach is where you belong. The Watts summer festival is the longest running black cultural festival in the USA. Alongside is also one of the largest music festivals in LA. The FYF is for alternative music lovers and for making friends.

September

The LA county fair takes place in September at Pomona. It includes fairground rides, fun houses and farm animals for children. Shows and information gazebos for the adults.

October

Halloween strikes in October and LA’s theatrical love blossoms not only for the night but for the whole month. Every home and building is decorated carefully and meticulously. Events that are a hit every year are the horror film fests, numerous pub crawls, the haunted houses dotted all over town and in particular The West Hollywood Costume Carnival on the night of Halloween.

November

This month marks the transition between the end of Thanksgiving and the beginning of the Christmas period with the Hollywood Christmas parade taking place the Sunday after Thanksgiving. In classic Hollywood style it’s a very large parade with marching bands, floral floats, musical acts and celebrity appearances.

December

The most beautiful month to visit LA. Imagine a state with a love for grandeur and glamour; the decorations really are are incredible! To top this off the most unique parade of all the: Marina Del Rey Parade is an event everybody makes a point of going to as it’s boats decorated instead of floats. Go witness the Christmas lights floating and sparkling over still waters. Lastly, New Year’s eve in LA is one of the most extravagant nights one can hope to enjoy. The wildest party on every corner, New Year’s Eve is guaranteed, for the first time ever, not to be anticlimactic.
